While attendance was only slightly higher than past years, everything else about this year’s Wild in the Weeds motorcycle rally exceeded expectations. The 15th version of the annual rally put on by the High Country Chapter of ABATE of AZ was met with the best weather in years, coupled with the best music and probably the best games in quite some time as well. The one area that needed improvement was the pool which unfortunately sprung a leak and could not be saved. However that did not appear to dampen the spirits of any of the party goers who were happy to hang out with good, and new, friends and enjoy the activities.
This year High County Chapter (HCC) experimented with accepting credit cards at the event and that went so well you can expect it to be a standard practice in the future.
As usual, Harley Lewis and her crew were on their game with great bar tendering, plenty of cold beer (and water) and breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets that satisfied even the heartiest appetite!
On Friday HCC presented Harley with a birthday gift of a canvas print of the design used to make this year’s t-shirts. If you missed out on one of these awesome looking shirts, drop by WildInTheWeeds.com and go to their STORE link to order yours. But you better be quick. You only have until May 16th to get your order in. Friday ended with an awesome performance by local band FROZEN FIRE and I must say Mario and the gang were On FIRE!
On Saturday the festivities got into high gear with tons of great raffle prizes, including $500 in cash, 50/50 and a wet-t shirt contest that was the culmination of the days games including people games like “Honey I’m Home”, the “Plank Walk”, the always popular “Tire Toss” (one each for men and women) and of course the bike games consisting of “Slow Drag”, “Joust”, “Road Kill” (my favorite), the “Weenie Bite” and of course the “Balloon Toss”.
Saturday evening wrapped up with a great bonfire and live music by UNCHAINED who played one of their best concerts in a while (if you missed it kick yourself because it was just incredible!).
Sunday morning wrapped up all the fun with another breakfast buffet that helped cure any hangovers from the night before and fueled the HCC staff that then cleaned up the area like they had never been there.
Well done to everyone form High Country of ABATE of AZ. If this is how well they run a small event like this, one can only imagine how awesome Too Broke For Sturgis will be this year with FOUR bands booked! Special congratulations to this year’s “Wildest In The Weeds” winner Amy Edwards who received a trophy as special recognition for service above and beyond to make sure this event went as smoothly as possible. Outstanding job Amy!
